New starters take part in UM Group Induction Programme

Posted on 19 November, 2024

Twice a year, UM Group invites new colleagues to take part in our Group Induction Programme.

It is something we look forward to as it provides the chance not only to educate new starters about the Group and its various activities, but also to socialise and spend time together away from the office.

On occasions, we also extend the invitation to the induction to colleagues who may have been with us for a while but who possibly have recently been promoted or changed job role, giving them the chance to also learn more about the full extent of the Group’s businesses.

Our latest edition of the Induction Programme was held in London on November 13 and 14 and colleagues taking part were:

Victor Ortega, Finance and Commercial Assistant, UM Espana
Sara Mingiardi, Commercial, Logistics & Quality, UM Italia
Madison France, Operator, UM Terminals
Nigel Bills, Operator, UM Terminals
Paul Turner, Control Room Operator, UM Terminals
Barry Lawton, EC&I Technician, UM Terminals
Paulie Twigg, Apprentice EC&I Technician, UM Terminals
Harry Cain, Apprentice Mechanical Fitter, UM Terminals
Dave Richards, Operator, UM Terminals

The first day of a packed two-day schedule began with a welcome introduction from UM Group CEO Ben Macer. This was followed by a series of presentations throughout the day covering areas including health and safety, trading/Europe, shipping and chartering, business intelligence, finance, cyber security and sustainability.

There was also time to fit in a walk close to the Group’s head office in Gracechurch Street, taking in the Thames and the opportunity to see many of London’s famous landmarks from the viewing platform at The Shard (located 800 feet above ground on the 72nd floor of the city’s tallest building).

The first day concluded with a lovely dinner at The Folly restaurant.

A shorter day two saw the final set of presentations including talks about quality, UM’s Learning Management System (LMS) and meta compliance. The final two presentations gave insights into the work of our GB and UM Terminals businesses.

A big thank you to all our presenters: Rebecca Lee, Andrew Creasey, Jason Marker, Adam Pierce, Shaun Smith, Mark Mitchell, Rauf Novruzov, Isabel Conde, Geraldine Carroll, Mark Few and Vic Brodrick.

Day two finished with a team lunch, the chance to complete feedback forms on the induction programme and all the attendees being presented with goody bags as they headed back to their respective UM locations in the UK and Europe!
